Marvel Masterworks Preview Pages Now Live
With Clover Press finally launching the Kickstarter for the first four volumes of Marvel Masterworks (and how exciting and gratifying is it to say that!), fans of this storied line of Marvel reprints can have a lot of their questions answered about the when and how much and what else? Meanwhile, CollectedEditions.com is proud to share some of the finer details of what you’ll find inside the volumes, with preview art and cover art for all four volumes.
First up is MARVEL MASTERWORKS: THE UNCANNY X-MEN VOL 18 HC, a showcase for Jim Lee and Marc Silvestri as Chris Claremont and crew chart their course towards the iconic new X-Men series. In this volume, Psylocke makes the scene as a pawn of the Mandarin, Gambit makes his first appearance, and Wolverine teams up with Captain America and Black Widow in a vintage tale set in Madripoor. And that’s just the start of things! Check out all that luscious late ’80s art, meticulously restored from the best materials available.
Next is MARVEL MASTERWORKS: SUPER-VILLAIN TEAM-UP VOL. 1 HC, a done-in-one in the Masterworks line chock full of bad guy bromance between Sub-Mariner, Doctor Doom and Red Skull. Loaded with crossovers from The Avengers, The Champions and Marvel Spotlight, this book also features a Steve Ditko-illustrated rarity starring the Shroud from an issue of Marvel Preview. What a nice surprise this volume is, making an epilogue to the eight-volume Sub-Mariner line and also a reading companion to the upcoming Avengers movie starring a certain Latverian monarch.
After Masterworks brings on the bad guys, they share another volume of one of the goodest of the good guys: Balder the Brave! Oh yeah, Thor is along for the ride in god and frog form, too, in MARVEL MASTERWORKS: THE MIGHTY THOR VOL. 25 HC! The third of four volumes to collect Walter Simonson’s run, this one restores these issues in the original coloring in hardcover for the first time! With an intro scribed by Walter himself, this is one every worthy reader of Thor should pick up!
And the final volume of the four is no slouch at all: MARVEL MASTERWORKS: THE TOMB OF DRACULA VOL. 6 HC! Squeezing the last bit of blood out of this timeless run of stories by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, this sixth Masterworks book is another line closer, and Drac fans are ecstatic! With star turns for Blade and Lilith, all hands are on board to send Dracula off into the wild, dark yonder in style. If you have the first five, you simply cannot live without this one!
