Clover Press “Launching Soon” for Marvel Masterworks Kickstarter Now Live

Clover Press launched its Kickstarter platform for Marvel Masterworks on the afternoon of Sunday, July 26, 2026. It is a “Launching Soon” page which serves as a placeholder until the real launch goes live at some undetermined point in the future. Until then, users with a Kickstarter account can save the page and get instant updates direct from Kickstarter when developments occur.

Of course, I will continue to gather information in this space. In fact, since our intiial news about the return of Masterworks, word was circulating that Masterworks editor Cory Sedlmeier was going to be “heavily involved” in the Clover Press initiative. To that, Cory chimed in on our message board forum to say “Much more to come after the official, full press release drops. Until then, make mine Masterworks!”

Interpret that as you will! More news to come…

GIN & COMICS EPISODE #1: MARVEL MASTERWORKS ARE BACK!

Y’all, I just got so excited about today’s news out of San Diego that I rushed out an episode of a new video blog series I’ve been wanting to do for a while. How much gin can Gormuu drink while still retaining a semblance of authority in comics commentary? In this case, quite a bit. You’ll note the video was done without any studio trickery or favorable lighting or stagecraft or even any editing. Your boy did this all in one take! A phenom in the making? Or just a waste of 15 minutes of your time? You be the judge!

I expound on the announcement of the return of the Marvel Masterworks in a way that is real to my heart. Hope y’all dig it. Future episodes will have a lot more, shall we say, refinement. And a different brand of gin. Perhaps a sponsored one? We’ll see.

MARVEL MASTERWORKS ARE BACK – LICENSED BY CLOVER PRESS!

News out of the 2026 San Diego Comic Con confirms: The Marvel Masterworks Are Returning!

“Clover Press has obtained the license to restart the Marvel Masterworks line under its own banner, as it announced to retailers during a closed-door event today at Comic-Con International: San Diego. Clover Press’ Marvel Masterworks line is scheduled to begin in 2027, with re-issues of some previous editions and continuation of some of the long-running collection series that ended abruptly with Marvel’s decision to stop the line themselves.”

The first four volumes mooted in the article are devoted to line continuations of Uncanny X-Men and The Mighty Thor, what would presumably be the final volume of Tomb of Dracula and an all-new line (a one-and-done, in fact) for Super-Villain Team-Up.

Trade dress was mentioned, with the article summing it up as involving “two versions: one with the classic format, tradedress (sic), and numbering, and then a second one with a new standalone design and no numbering to make them more appealing to new readers.” This sounds like the variant line will continue as well as a new Clover Press-designed trade dress. No word in the article about the silver “Regular” edition continuing, though it would seem to me likely that it would.

I’ve been in talks with the folks at Clover Press about doing an interview with them to dig deeper into the new launch of Marvel Masterworks, particularly the crowdfunding element, trade dress questions and future content, as well as other details. There should be more information coming out of San Diego so perhaps we’ll have some of those answers sooner rather than later.

It’s been quite the saga to get these results in front of you but we’re proud of the results. There’s a lot more detail on the survey, the road that led to it and the data that it provided, in the PDF below. Please feel free to download it and share it. The gist of things is that there’s a lot of commercial and creative purpose left in this venerable line of books and there’s a lot of folks who feel strongly about that. As for the finer points of the data, well, get to reading and discussing on the forum and also our new Facebook page (linked in the navigation bar above).

At some point in the future I’ll develop these results for easy browsing on the website but for now the PDF will be where the results are found.
